CESNET, z. s. p. o. (Czech Republic)
Jan Gruntorad holds Dipl. Ing. (1975) and Ph.D. (1989) degrees from Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague.
He was responsible for establishment of the first Internet type network in the Czech Republic â€“ CESNET. For Project and Realization of the CESNET Network he received an award from Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
Since creation of CESNET legal body in 1996 Dr.Gruntorad is member of Board of Directors of CESNET and Chief Executive Officer responsible for both research and operational tasks within CESNET. CESNET - is an association of all government funded Czech Universities and Czech Academy of Science.
Since 2010 Dr.Gruntorad was responsible for creation and operation of the e-Infrastructure for Research, Development and Infrastructures in the Czech Republic that consists of computer networks, grids, clouds, storage services and provisioning tools for collaboration.
In the period of 1998 to 2003 Dr.Gruntorad was the Chairman of the CEENET (Central and Eastern European Network Association) and for more five years he served as consultant for NATO in the field of computer networks for R&D community in area of Caucasus and was involved in establishing of IP network for R&D community in Azerbaijan.
In years 2003 to 2009 he was member of Board of Directors in DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe) â€“ company operating pan-European network GEANT. Dr.Gruntorad was also member of Executive Committee of the GNx projects. Dr.Gruntorad represents Czech Republic in the e-IRG (e-Infrastructure Reflection Group) and in the Future Internet Forum.
From 2008 to 2010 Dr.Gruntorad served in the Nominating Committee of ICANN.
