NetSage is building and deploying advanced measurement services for the NSF-funded international backbones and exchange points. This session will detail our current data collection and plans to better understand current traffic patterns across the links, with a focus on understanding growth trends for capacity-planning purposes. It will also discuss our efforts to define a best practices measurement suite for international networks. NetSage, a collaboration between Indiana University, University California Davis, and University of Hawaii at Manoa, provide an unprecedented combination of passive measurements, including SNMP data, flow data, and Bro-based traffic analysis, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, and longitudinal network performance data visualization. This session will also detail current privacy issues, and discuss how NetSage is addressing those concerns.
